These dogs were used to pull light loads, herd cattle and serve as a watch dog. This tribe had great respect for their dogs and brought them into their homes as guardians as well

As the name suggests, these dogs were originally bred in Siberia who found their way into Canada, Alaska and United States only at a much later stage. As mentioned earlier, these dogs were used to pull sleighs and sleds and were also used for expedition purposes. However, these days these dogs are found in places with varying climatic conditions. However, it would be a good idea to know about a Siberian Husky’s natural habitat which will help in providing them the best living conditions as pets.

As the name suggests, this breed was initially found in Siberia and this breed which were initially found in regions with extremely low temperature and harsh weather conditions. Initially, though these dogs were found only in areas with low temperatures, these days they can be easily found in places that have temperatures ranging from moderate to high. This is primarily because Siberian Huskies are generally adaptable to their existing environments.

As they originate from regions which are cold and snowing, Siberian Huskies are covered with a thick fur coat which keep them protected against the extreme weather. However, this does not mean to say that these animals will not be able to withstand warm weather. This is because Siberian Huskies also have an undercoat which is used to protect their bodies. While the upper coat is used to protect the Huskies from cold, the undercoat assists in deflecting heat.

The one thing to keep in mind while bringing up Siberian Huskies in warmer temperature is to provide them enough shade and water to play around in. This is because despite the undercoat that keeps these dogs safe from heat, the presence of double coats also means that they can tend to get uncomfortable with warmer weather. The best thing to do would be to provide them enough shade, water and air conditioning so that they are not affected by heat. This is especially so as there is a tendency to overheat because of their coats. The one thing that is noticed though is that in warmer weather, Siberian Huskies tend to shed throughout the year.

Additionally, Siberian Huskies are dogs which enjoy physical activities and exercises. So it would be a good idea to have an open space for these dogs to play around. Digging holes is a one thing these dogs enjoy doing; so having an open yard would only help in keeping your pet husky happy. Also, these are dogs that enjoy staying in a pack. Therefore it would be a good idea to have these dogs socialize with other dogs which could mean getting another dog or going to dog parks regularly.

These dogs tend to adjust themselves to the weather conditions of the place the owner stays provided a few adjustments like frequent supply of water and shade is provided.
