Siberian Husky Appearance

A descendant of wolf. It’s the first thing to strike your mind when you look at a Siberian Husky. Perhaps, it is a cross breed between dog and wolf. Also, the general feeling is that a Siberian Husky is a large dog. A feeling that’s not necessarily true.

Here are a few physical attributes of a Siberian Husky.

Size:

The Siberian Husky is a dog of moderate build. The height of this dog can range between 21 and 24 inches in males. 20 to 22 inches in females. The male dogs weigh anywhere between 45 to 60 pounds. The lady dogs weigh between 35 to 50 pounds.

Face:

The Siberian Huskies have different markings. They have different patterns which are not normally found in other breeds as well. These markings and patterns provide these dogs an distinctive look.

Color of coats:

The most common color of coat found is white and black. This is not the only color combination seen though. Huskies can be found in coats which could be copper and white. Gray and white, even pure white. Very rarely, Siberian Huskies can also have Agouti coat. That type of look boosts their wolf like appearance.

Also, these dogs are found to have double coat and undercoat. The presence of these coats enables this breed to survive in extreme temperatures. These dogs are said to be able to live in temperatures -60, -70 °F. However, this does not mean to say that they cannot stay in a region with high temperature. The coat assists in deflecting heat as well.

The Siberian Huskies normally shed the coat twice in a year. They typically do it when the season changes. It would be a good idea to brush the Huskies during this period. It helps to avoid having dog hair all over the house. However, it is also mentioned, these dogs require minimum grooming.

Eyes:

Siberian Huskies are normally found to have beautifully shaped eyes which are moderately spaced. These dogs normally are found to have eyes which are pale blue. Dark blue, amber or brown in color as well. However, you will also find dogs that can have differently colored eyes. It happens due to the condition called heterochromia. This means that occasionally, these dogs can have a brown eye and a blue eye. They could have other combinations when it comes to eye colors.

Nose, ears and tail:

The Siberian Huskies have noses which are black, tan or flesh colored. Occasionally, you can also find Huskies with snow noses.

Their ears are normally triangular in shape, erect, round tipped and covered with fur.
These dogs have long, furry sickle tails. They use it to cover their faces and noses while sleeping in winters.

Gait:

They have a gait which is quite graceful and smooth. It’s a feature that appears as they are medium sized work dogs. These dogs can be rightly said to be nimble on their feet.

These are the common physical appearances that set Siberian Huskies apart from other breeds.
